Alverthorpe Park Receives 2024 Environmental Stewardship Award

Meliora Design is proud to share that the Jenkintown Creek Restoration: Stormwater Retrofit at Alverthorpe Park received the 2024 “Environmental Stewardship Award” at the 2024 Montgomery Awards Ceremony for its unique approach to retrofitting stormwater infrastructure into an existing township park with minimal site disturbance.  

Meliora provided civil engineering on the project, which was a collaboration with Cerulean Environmental and the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership. 

According to the Montgomery Council Planning Commission, sponsor of the award: 

“This excellent project, which resulted in water quality improvements, habitat creation, and environmental education opportunities, exemplifies the benefits of interagency cooperation and site-sensitive stormwater design...the project  an excellent example of progressive thinking and creative stormwater improvements, and demonstrates how projects can be successfully implemented through multiagency partnerships. All of the project partners recognized the significance of this project in terms of water quality improvements, habitat creation, and environmental education and shows how small projects that retrofit existing infrastructure can have a big impact for the community and the environment.” 

The annual Montgomery Awards program recognizes the best in planning and design, advocacy, and environmental stewardship in Montgomery County and acknowledges the high-quality work and commitment of communities, organizations, and professionals.
